EXAMPLE

foreigner with MEXICAN NATIONAL DRIVING LICENCE

can drive on that licence for one year in GB if they take up residence here then after that must get a GB driving licence

EXAMPLE

foreigner with FRENCH (EEC) NATIONAL DRIVING LICENCE

can drive on that licence for three years or until they are 70 in GB if they take up residence here then after that must get a GB driving licence

Just found this thread, i looking for the oldest i can resurrect!!!

Thought i would update incase any interest.

foreign driver from non EU country - as above 12 months before having to get a full UK licence. They can apply for a learner licence within that 12 month period and not have to abide by the restrictions up until the end of the 12 months whereby they will have to either have passed the test or revete to full learner status.

Some countries, believe the some of the old commonwealth countries can partake in the licence exchange, where within the 12 months they can do a swap for a full UK licence.

EU countries - can now drive on their EU licences until it expires or they are 70 (they can now be given fixed penalty tickets as well).

No UK resident can drive a foreign registered vehicle in the UK (a couple of exemptions)
UK residents cannot used foreign/EU insurance to insure a vehicle in the UK
