falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:38 am » so thank you very much for being in attendance this morning Sas, this chat was really to focus on the new Dolphinarium page that is under construction, but we had a good chat in any event, looking back on the good old days is great fun and now we have a plan for a "tour" as you have suggested
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:38 am » sounds amazing
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:36 am » yes they taught me to Dive there clean the glass and the bottom of the pool the dolphins would come round and tow us round the pool it was awesome and great fun for them
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:36 am » that is the truth, blimmen heck
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:35 am » Overtime whats that lol we would work a 6 day week sat and sunday and id bring home about £7.60
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:34 am » you swam in the Dolphin pool? realy?!!
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:34 am » still much fun was had a good swip in the Dolfin pool was cool and then off down the bar
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:34 am » sheesh you should have got overtime, yikes
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:32 am » we got Naff all
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:32 am » yes that was the Hotest summer in 75/76 I think it was a bloody nightmare we had the Baboon Gates open and both Eletric gates open all the Tiger and Lion and cheeta gates open I have never seen so many people that was the year the park had a record turn over and all the brothers got new roll's ok for some
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:27 am » one of your posts last year Sas wrote:Hi All well talking of Queues I remember as will every one else there we opened one Bank Holiday monday and from 9am in the morning till 7pm at night it was non stop through the reserves all the gates had to be open and every one worked like dog's that day the park had never been so busy Ginger and the crew in Cats were at it all day trying to keep the Lions from going through the open gates it was manic I think Tez and the boy's did the most show's in the Dolphinarum ever and every one crashed out down the bar later to a few well deserved pints/gallons lol, if the park was open today it would be the best in Europe as the smarts wouldn't have it any other way, but my god the expence of running a place like that now Ouch. haha corker of a post that one Sas, love that
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:26 am » the twentieth anniversary (since the close down) WSP calendar!! tada!
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:26 am » thats so cool and Yes I want one lol
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:25 am » yeah? haha which one? so next year .... it will be 20 years ... since the close down - have you seen the anniversary calendar that we have released?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:24 am » and one of the members told me about it
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:24 am » I never new this place exsisted untill I found Facebook and I listed one of my jobs My Best Job as working at Royal Windsor Safari Park
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:23 am » wow I look forward to that
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:22 am » infact I will text them now and see if they can mail them to me this afternoon may be able to up-load them tomorrow
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:22 am » Sas you joined the site at the end of 2007 but the site has been running since 2003, what took you so long to join us?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:21 am » my friends are always up there with there children so will sort them soon
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:21 am » would be great! my son took his laptop for repair, cost him £50 but it was all restored
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:21 am » yes I lost them to a PC Failure will try and get them again
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:20 am » including the ruined house? in one topic you said Sas wrote:I have some upto date photo's of the Park and you can hardly see the white house for all the trees and shrubs ect, ect, it's unreal I know were 20 odd years down the road or is that 30 lol but it has changed so much, but there are area's in the park that have not changed as I think Malc has had a guided tour round the place and you go through a gate and it's like going back in time, id love a good look round to see what's still there and to see the old runined house at the top of the park would be cool, I'l add the photo's this weekend if I get the chance and you'll see what I mean about change. gotta say I have heard a lot about this ruined house but never seen it
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:19 am » if I do get in there I will take the camera and record everything
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:19 am » well I never haerd from him again, anyway armed with your mobile no I will phone them
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:19 am » hope he's ok
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:18 am » indeed, John Jeffries was a goldmine of WSP info too, he was a pleasure to chat to on the way round, sadly soon after that all communication dived
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:17 am » Yes no probs 07736461264 I could go and have a look and see if it's worth it it could be very up setting for all of us but a good walk round and see what lego has done would be intresting
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:16 am » hold on, the dolphinarium was 5 years old when they sold up
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:16 am » I think that is one of the reasons the smarts got out the cash input needed was massive as the plumbing was old in the dolphinarium so a much neededd up date
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:15 am » re the "guided tour" you're after Sas are you prepared to give your mobile phone no? I haven't got a mobile but this is a case where a mobile fits the bill, if I give them your mobile maybe we can get John Jeffries (if he's still there) to bell us as and when he's on tea break
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:14 am » well as I said before they needed a Bigger Dolphinarium and a massive expansion program
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:12 am » how?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:12 am » if they had more land it would be very different they needed more in there to bring the public in it was always busy but there could have been more
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:11 am » jesus christ, here okay I'll tell you what I'll do, I will ring Up Legoland and try and find out if they will let us do a guided tour as you say Sas but is there anything left to do a guided tour on? that is the question, could be a depressing day out my friend
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:10 am » as for Accidents my friend was riding his bike past the park and a car load of greek prests turned right into him it cost him his leg not nice but when he came to the prest was giving him the last rights very scary
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:09 am » yeah but Leogoland is a totally other place, what a nightmare, who would have thought WSP would only last TWENTY YEARS? you couldn't make it up
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:08 am » one thing forgot to say I came past the Park the other night and there were car's tailed back into Windsor it was just like being back in the 70/80's with every one trying to get in there
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:07 am » a car turning right into a petrol station just went straight into me, I was on the main road!
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:06 am » any accidents? I broke my wrist on my Kawasaki going through Molesey back in 1993
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:06 am » I also have a 57 Chevy Pickup but thtas still on the boat come over from the US
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:05 am » Bike's and Hot Rod's I have a Triumph Rocket 3 its a 3 cylinder 2300cc and pulls like a train it weighs 320Kilos but as i'm still a growing lad I can cope
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:04 am » well in one topic "twentieth anniversary of the close down" you replied Sas wrote:How about a Reunion at the Park/Lego Land, a guided tour of the place including the old cat reserves, and a look at the old runied house out the back of the park don't know if the old cat reserves are still there Sas, unfortunately since I did a guided tour back there in 2003 we have sadly lost contact with our Legoland expert John Jeffries, is there anyone else at Legoland who could assist in this regard? we need somebody on the inside! back in 2003 I went to Legoland with a taperecorder (should have been a video camera but I didn't have one) and held an interview/ roam around with original site member John Jeffries god bless him, it was brilliant
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:04 am » I know it would be great to have a park reunion at the park we could have a guided tour of the whole place and see what we can see
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:03 am » nor me, Sas you list in your profile your interests as Hot Rods, Harleys, Animals, Moto GP, World Superbike, Drag Racing and Travel, is that in order? which is your biggest passion right now?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:03 am » funny really as this site is for everone and it will be great to get everyones names on photo's I couldn't even name most of the animals lol
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:00 am » ok, sorry to hear that, anyway next year .... it will be 20 years ... since the close down
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 8:00 am » I have no photo's could never afford a camera I know there's a few of me in my younger day's and id love to see more tez has the most photo's but there's still alot out there
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:59 am » apart from adding photos to the gallery there is another aspect to it, members can ADD comments to the photos (any photos) but most seem reluctant to even do that
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:58 am » what about you Sas? are you going to?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:57 am » yes they should they need to share them with every one it brings back great memorys of the place
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:54 am » about the GALLERY : well I can't say that I like all the photos that other members have uploaded to it but some members just will not upload their photos to it Sas do you think they should?
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:54 am » I remember the Education Centre, they had small animals there, rabbits and lecture room
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:53 am » yes now they'd been running a the Education centre for schools and very good itr was too
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:48 am » Sas in one post that you added at the end of last year you said Sas wrote:Welcome NiK, The Education Centre had only been up and running a while when I was there what year were you there ? it was a great place, do you have any photo's if so please add them so we can all enjoy them. you invite a new mamber Nik to add photos, well we do have a forums gallery LINKED IN with the forums, have you seen it?
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:48 am » hehe I did wonder
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:47 am » That was Ramu one big cool mutha of a whale lol
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:45 am » anyway let's go to the second of the images on the wd40 page Sas, any thoughts? Smartie, Cookie, Flipper, Honey, Sugar, Speedy, Snappy? was that the lot? seven dolphins and one killer whale? which killer whale was it at that time? Tez's all time fave was Ramu but was it Ramu at the time of this brochure? (the brochure doesn't actually say)
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:45 am » yeah I always think "why couldn't WSP of had a programme like that!!"
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:45 am » i'm going down there soon as I want to see the how the Last performing Elphant is doing they raised alot of dosh to look after her
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:43 am » yes normally catch a bit of it when I get home from work a very good programe
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:33 am » talking about Longleat, have you seen that programme on BBC2 Sas? everyday it's on - daytime TV
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:28 am » Brighton was run by Dave and Sue who worked at RWSP it was good but very small and not very busy you need a place within a safari park to make it pay look how busy chester zoo is and Longleat
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:26 am » hehe I never visited another "Seaworld"/ Dolphinarium.... just shows you, you only know what you've got when it's gone
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:25 am » but they closed in the end
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:25 am » I think they had Brighton and one other can't remember the name
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:25 am » so is it right that there are NO dolphinariums in the UK? when WSP closed, that was it?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:25 am » it would be Awesome to see that in the UK again
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:24 am » that would be hard it could be done but you'd need some one like the Chealse boss with his kind of money to invest to build the right place
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:23 am » in one topic "Can Dolphinariums make a comeback in the UK?" you replied Sas wrote:If it did happen and I for one would love to see them back in the Uk, it would have to be built to the US Speck and 2 to 3 times the size of WSP Pool size, it sure would be good to see a state of the art facilite for Dolphins and whales in the UK. well thinking about the UK right now Sas, DO WE HAVE A DOLPHINARIUM anything like Windsor Safari Park had 1970 - 1992??
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:22 am » back to the Big Top and TV it was very big by then and was run down in the Winters quarters in Winkfild
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:21 am » so they gave up on WSP and went on ... to what?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:21 am » I won't take it away from them they new there were on to a good thing with the park and it was very well run
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:21 am » why did you leave Sas?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:20 am » yes a very busy place we'd clock on at around 07.50 and still be there at 7 at night you had to be fit to play there
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:19 am » so how much passion did they really have for WSP? money won the argument
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:19 am » yes i'm not sure how much they got but the brothers all got new Rolls Royce so must have been good
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:18 am » yeah and the park was 5 years old?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:18 am » they sold up and got out when a good offer came in
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:18 am » I don't think they sold it becuase of that, I think they sold it to make a tidy profit! which they did!!
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:17 am » very true the park needed a big input of cash and I don't think the smarts had it
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:16 am » Sas wrote:The expense of up-grading the Park and the Dolphinarium it was going to cost the earth and would have been a Monster task, you would need a Billionair to take it on with very deep pockets you can only imagine how much it would cost today and you need a real Marineland like in the US to get the crowds in to pay for it all. David Taylor talks about the mammoth costs looming for "Seaworld" as it was then, even the electricity bill for filtering the water was going to be massive, this itself was a big clue as to future crippling costs, did you know David Taylor Sas?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:16 am » I was there longer than I thought so may be 5 years
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:15 am » yes it was the very early day's of the park in the 70's a great place to grow up
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:14 am » it seems to me that if you were there when the Smarts owned it - and that is basically from "the start" you were probably there when this brochure about "The dolphinarium" was on sale!!
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:14 am » right where do you want to start Malc
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:14 am » Sas in a recent post on the site you said I was there when the Smarts owened it and it was the best years when they sold up they new what was coming and jumped ship well the Smarts owned it 1969 - 1973 am I right?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:14 am » and I hope it dosent ran to much Eddy lol
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:13 am » I have received apologies for absence from Eddy Powell, he is on his way to sunny Bedford as we speak so have a good one Eddy!
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:13 am » Eddy's done a great job some great photo's there
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:12 am » we are here to talk about the new page under construction http://www.nationaltraffic.co.uk/wd40.html at the moment, we just have pages kindly scanned by Eddy Powell from his latest "Dolphinarium" brochure printed 1971
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:12 am » Yes Malc all ok
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:12 am » yeah - you ok Sas?
Sas « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:11 am » ok now on line morning all welcome to the Sassy Big Boy Gang
falkor « Sat Sep 03, 2011 7:06 am » A warm welcome to the Ajax chat channel on Windsor Safari park this sultry summer morning!

eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:57 pm » yes i often look at site, shame more don't get involved more, by the numbers tonight says that, i have put done a book about my life, it you have a e.mail address not a site address and i am not i.t. savvy, i will send you the chapters about windsor and you can post it on the site
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:51 pm » shame the one to one tv tapes were lost, loved to have seen it again
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:51 pm » did you ever do the duty where the giraffes were fed with bread by the guests eddy?
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:50 pm » I was never employed, Ilived round the corner in Chobham,my kids were aged 3 and 5, we came often sometimes 3 or 4 times A WEEK
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:49 pm » what years and section were you?
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:48 pm » but one or two ran away after half an hore and left us to sort out one holy mess with cars stuck can just picture it AWESOME, more more
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:47 pm » yes those were the days, and yes i was lucky looking back to have had my time there, grass is always greener
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:46 pm » jesus christ - my god what a job, love it
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:45 pm » elephant house, hoofed section
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:44 pm » apart from me tim and angus, we needed two others to cover the lock gates and two in resurve, and one on day off, so i used to get some tossers sent from the dole office in windsor none lasted more then a week most only one day, i would put the in the lock gate huts to brake them in slowly but one or two ran away after half an hore and left us to sort out one holy mess with cars stuck
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:42 pm » ok so you went back twice and you were not impressed but discounting the baboon reserve, think about your two visits, which areas of the park interested you the most? which were best in your view?
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:42 pm » nice one
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:39 pm » yes we fired at the start once they started raiding the coaches, but once they new the drill a well aimed rock was just as good for a time
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:39 pm » oh I know where you're going with this one, just look at Chessington Zoo
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:38 pm » yes i went back twice, i was not inpressed, i think i was there at the best time as after that it seemed as if it could not make up it's mind what it wanter to be
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:36 pm » oh I see - really? ok so was any weapon fired?
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:36 pm » only had blanks in then
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:35 pm » that is awesome, i can only remember the staves but the shotguns must have been superb
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:33 pm » in the early days when i took over we had shot guns, then some old lady's complained so we went to bull whips, some little old lady's complaind so we were tols to use 5 foot staves, , thought that would not stop a male hamadrus babboon so another reason to leave, six months later i heard they had gone back to whips. tossers
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:31 pm » eddy after you left employment - did you ever return to the Park just to have a look round?
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:30 pm » tez worked in the seaworld dolphinarium big time, anything planned, well I suppose no is the answer, there is a thread
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:29 pm » yes i knew the 20years anniversary is comming anything planned?
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:28 pm » haha you and Paul Scott should talk, Paul is Taylor's no 1 fan eddy
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:28 pm » the tv show one by one by the book david taylor did was my time and a lot of the show showed the bloke meant to be me in my wooly hat
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:27 pm » fraid not eddy, but next year will be the TWENTIETH anniversary of the close down
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:25 pm » do you ever hear anything about doug catlage who was the dolphin trainer?, not good on names after nearly 40 years what section was he in
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:25 pm » Windsor Safari Park closed on Sunday, 25 October 1992. The 144 acre (58ha) site in Windsor Great Park, which opened in 1970, went into receivership along with its owners, Themes International, which owed about £40M.
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:24 pm » crikey that is amazing, would love to know the lo down on that eddy, did you know our Tez?
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:22 pm » i was brought down from twycross zoo to work the elephants that were comming, but on my first day the babboon forman jacked so jimmy said i have to take his job till he found some one else, after 9 months i was still there and the first lot on 6 baby elephant were sold on-route to usa and i was going to be stuck with the babboons so left
falkor « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:19 pm » what made you leave? may I ask?
eddypowell « Wed Apr 20, 2011 7:19 pm » we had the cars coaches , jimmy mc nab was head ranger and it was getting pretty hairy at times so i guess that would at least stop the coaches after i left
